Not a rumor but worth noting... It would be great to see some department members support Joel (come and run) as he supports the children of our public servants!!!
Trooper Runs 33 Miles in Honor of Local Children
On Sunday, November 15, Joel Flores, Crawfordsville, will be running to honor two local children who have fought difficult battles with childhood cancer. These children were affected with childhood cancers at an early age, and are children of local law enforcement officers. Flores, a seven-year veteran with the Indiana State Police, will be running the 33-mile distance between the Crawfordsville Police Department and the Indiana State Police Post in Lafayette.
Flores will be running to help raise support and money on behalf of two law enforcement families: Sean Swaim, a State Trooper, whose 5 year old daughter, Reagan, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a brain tumor and Jack Taylor, a Crawfordsville City Policeman, whose family who lost their 13 year old son, JD Taylor, to cancer on October 2, 2009. Reagan is currently beginning 56 weeks off chemotherapy and radiation.
Floresfs idea originated because of his passion for running and his personal experience from cancer within his family. He hopes that the money raised will support the families during a trying time within their lives, and that through the run, citizens will become more aware of the prevalence of this horrible disease, which can affect anyone, at any age.
Flores will begin his route at 7:00 am on November 15 and conclude upon reaching the Indiana State Police Post in Lafayette later in the day. Supporters are encouraged to cheer Flores along his journey, following US 231 north from the Crawfordsville Police Department, through Linden and Romney and connecting to SR 43 north to the State Police Post.
Flores is accepting monetary donations and pledges on behalf of the two families. All donations are tax deductible. Please indicate "Trooper Runs 33" Fund. Donations and pledges will be divided evenly between the two families once the run has been completed and sent to:
Indiana Trooperfs Association Youth Fund PO Box 798 Angola, IN 46703

On January 15, 2009, two months before her 3rd birthday, Aubrey Faith Anderson was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Because of the treatments that she has had to undergo, she has lost her hair. As a show of strength and support, 36 Troopers from the Fort Wayne post shaved their heads bald and sat with Aubrey, her father Caleb (a Fort Wayne Trooper), her mother Ashley, brother Cade and sister Alysse for a photograph outside of the Post on Wednesday, July 1st. Two additional Troopers (for a total of 38) shaved their heads in support but were not able to be here for the photo. Please visit Aubreyfs website at www.caringbridge.org/visit/aubreyanderson1

In reference to our conversion the other day the new Pete Dye Course at French Lick will be opening soon. As a golf staff we have decided to develop a world class caddy program. By developing this caddy program we will be one of a handful of golf courses in the state that has one. What I am reaching out to you for is to see if you have any contacts of any officers that might have the interest in a caddy position. The summer months are not a big priority for us because of our commitment to the youth in the French Lick area. Our key need is in what we call our shoulder season (April, May, and then August, September and October) is when we need caddies. The pay for the short time they put in is very good. Each caddy will receive a mandatory $30 per bag and possibly $120 per foursome. Then tip will be included on top of that.
Ifm sure that the any interested officers would need to have the appropriate permission for off duty work, so we were hoping you could help pave the way for those who would be interested, additional we would like some help with informing, or promoting this opportunity to your officers in the southern part of the state.
