2017 - ISPA Bass Fishing Tournament

Published: October 15, 2017

On a beautiful June 15th, thirty-seven teams took part in the 2017 Indiana State Police Alliance Bass Tournament held at Geist Reservoir near Indianapolis. Each two-person fishing team was made up of at least one active or retired law enforcement officer or Indiana State Police employee. As expected, Geist Reservoir did not let anyone down and nearly every team brought a five bass limit to the scales. Per State of Indiana requirements, each legal bass had to measure at least 14" in length to be counted towards the fishermen's catches.

The winning team was retired Monticello (IN) Police Department's John Raines and his partner Hink Hinkle with a total weight of 17.55 lbs. Second place, with 15.88 lbs., went to United States Army (active) Military Police Logan Straber and his father, Gary Straber. Third place was claimed by Westport (IN) Police Department Patrolman John Organist and Mike Bartlett with 15.02 lbs. Retired Shelbyville (IN) Police Department Officer Jim Dile and his partner, Shane Peters, captured fourth place with 14.78 lbs., while Seymour (IN) Police Department's John Watson and Brandon White placed fifth with 14.12 lbs. ISP Jasper District's F/Sgt. Aaric Correll and his partner Brandon Gladish took the sixth place winnings, weighing in 14.11 lbs of Geist Reservoir bass. The big bass of the tournament went to Marion (IN) Co Sheriff's Department John and Jeremy Gray with a 5.51 pound giant largemouth bass.

Following the event, teams were invited to the nearby Cross Pointe Church were everyone was treated to a wonderful hog roast along with all the sides graciously provided by the Indiana State Police Alliance and masterfully prepared by Troopers Matt Wilson and Larry Antic.

Thank you and great job gentlemen! Planning for the 2018 event has already begun. Grab a friend and make plans to be part of the fun!
